FRINGE BENEFITS

1. What benefits does the School Board provide me?
           
     You are provided with the following Board-paid benefits:

  • Life insurance (one time your annual salary)
  • Standard short-term disability (STD)
  • Health insurance (employee only)

2.  When and how will I get my benefits package?

      Once you are cleared in the system and The Office of Risk and Benefits Management is   
      notified, a benefits package will be mailed to your home address.  Note: If your home   
      address has recently changed, you must revise your address with you worksite   
      administrator.

3.  What if I worked for M-DCPS last school year, will I receive a benefits package?
     
      No, your current benefits will remain the same until December 31, 2006. You must re-
      enroll during the fall 2006 open enrollment period for an effective date of January 2007.

4.  When will my coverage become effective?

  • Health insurance for yourself will be effective on your date of hire.
  • Health insurance for your dependents will be effective on the first of the month following your first deduction. (i.e. Premium deducted from your paycheck in September, their coverage begins in October)
  • Standard short-term disability (STD) becomes effective the first of the month following your date of hire.
  • Flexible benefits become effective the first of the month following your first deduction. (i.e. Premium deducted from your paycheck in September, your coverage begins in October)

5.   After receiving my benefits package, how do I enroll and what is the deadline to go   
      online in order to make my benefits selection?

     In order to select the benefits of your choice, you must enroll online within 31 days from your notification.
     If you do not enroll by the due date noted on the memo in your package, you will be automatically enrolled in United
     Healthcare Point of Service (employee-only coverage) and standard short-term Disability. There will be no
     coverage for your dependents and you will not be enrolled in any employee-paid flexible benefits.
