       Teacher Application Procedures

You must be eligible for a Florida Educator's Certificate; pass a criminal background check and drug test; and be a citizen of the United States or be legally present in the United States and have authorization for employment.

Two (2) Reference Evaluation Forms must be completed by persons best able to attest to the applicant's job performance such as Deans, Professors, Intern Supervisors, Directing/ Supervising Teachers, Principals, Assistant Principals, Subject Area Coordinators, Supervisors, and/ or immediate past employers if not in one of the named categories.

(with postage affixed by the applicant) must be complete and mailed by the persons completing the form. Reference Evaluation Forms must be on file in our office before an interview will be scheduled. The applicant's Social Security number and name must be written on each form.

An official transcript with the seal of the college/university and the conferral date(s) of degree(s) is required to document a minimum GPA of 2.5 and the completion of all requirements. Applicants with foreign degrees must have their credentials validated. An official transcript showing conferral of a Bachelor's degree is required before Instructional Staffing will schedule an interview.

Applicants for Temporary Instructor positions (substitute teacher) must submit a minimum of 60 credits, from an accredited college or university, and a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or more.  Interviews will not be considered for applicants with a lower GPA.

Graduates who are non-education majors with degrees in the following areas are eligible to submit an employment application to M-DCPS at this time:

  •       Speech/Language Pathology

  •       Mathematics

  •       Biology

  •       Chemistry

  •       Earth-Space Science

  •       English

All other graduates who are non-education majors, must submit a Statement of Status of Eligibility issued by the Florida Department of Education  or a valid score report showing a passing grade on an appropriate Subject Area Examination with the application. The Application for an Instructional Position and Statement of Status of Eligibility is required before Instructional Staffing will schedule an interview.

All graduates possessing foreign degrees, must submit a Statement of Status of Eligibility issued by the Florida Department of Education with the application. All documents, including the application, must be signed and/or sealed as dictated on each form. Return completed application with forms and attachments to: MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, Office of Human Resources, Instructional Staffing, 1500 Biscayne Blvd., Suite 129, Miami, FL 33132.
