Why should I apply to the Operation TEACH program?
Operation TEACH is designed for those career changers who are looking for a way to continue to serve their community in a positive, fulfilling way.
What credentials do I need?
You will need a 4 year college degree, with a 2.5 GPA or higher, from an accredited institution of higher learning. A background in mathematics or science is preferred. No previous education coursework is required. You also must have a Statement of Eligibility from the State of Florida certifying that you are ELIGIBLE to teach in your chosen subject area. You must take and pass the General Knowledge Test and your subject area Examination.
How much will I be paid?
Starting salary for the 2009-2010 school year is $38,000. You will receive an additional stipend of $2000 to be paid as follows:
- $500 For completing summer basic training.
- $500 For completing first semester.
- $1000 For completion of state certification testing.
What about teacher certification?
You will be issued a temporary certificate from the state as you work toward earning full teacher certification by the end of the 2009-2010 school year.
Where will I be assigned to teach?
All Operation TEACH instructors will be deployed to high needs, Title 1 schools within Miami-Dade County.
What is the deadline for application?
April 10, 2009
Decisions for acceptance into the Operation TEACH program will be made by May 4, 2009.
